Op onze wandelrustdag zijn we met de trein van Sóller naar Palma gereden. Deze rit van 27km langs steile toppen
en valleien van de Serra de Tramuntana was heel apart. De trein bestaat namelijk uit oud materiaal uit 1912. Een hele
ervaring om in zo'n trein te zitten met 1ste klas rode pluche banken en fauteuils. Er was natuurlijk ook een 2de klas.
En de wat muffe lucht en het gerammel van de trein geeft de extra dementie.
On our walking day of rest we were going with the train from Sóller to Palma. This journey was 27km and we go
past of steep summit and valleys of the Serra de Tramuntana. It was very special. The train existence from old material
of 1912. A great experience sitting in this train with 1ste classe red plush seat and easy-chairs. There was also an 2de
classe. The musty air and the rattle of the train give it a extra dementia.

Palma is 1983 de hoofdstad van de Autonome Gemeenschap van de Balearen. De stad heeft nu circa 300.000 inwoners.
Van alle Baleaarse steden heeft Palma de meeste historische bezienswaardigheden. O.a Christenkoningen, Arabische heersers
en joodse handelaren hebben hun stempel gedrukt op de Baleaarse hoofdstad waar het heerlijk is om door de straten te lopen.
Palma is since 1983 the capital from the autonomous Community of the Balearic Island. In the city live about 300.000
inhabitants.
From all Balearic cities Palma have the most historic place of interest. O. Christening, Arab ruler and Jewess merchant
had leave one mark on the Balearic capital. You can walk delicious with the many monuments and the friendly people.

We kwamen aan bij het treinstation in Palma en zijn via wat winkelstraten naar het Plaça Major
gelopen. Een groot gezellig verkeersvrij plein met veel restaurants en cafés waar diverse lieden hun optredens deden.
Verder naar de Kathedraal van Palma La Seu gelopen.
Deze mooie gotische kathedraal hebben we bezocht waarvan foto's en info op de vervolgpagina van Palma te zien zijn.
We arrived by the train station in Palma en we walk trough shopping street to the Plaça Major.
A big pleasant traffic free square with many restaurants and cafes where many folk make one appearance.
Afterwards we walk to the Cathedral from Palma La Seu. We had visited this magnificent gothic cathedral.
On the continuation from Palma you had pictures and info about the cathedral.

Langs de stadsmuren en de haven naar het gotische kasteel Castell de Bellver gelopen. Dit kasteel ligt ongeveer 2 km van
de kathedraal af op een met pijnbomen bedekte heuvel. Je kan het van verre zien. Onderweg naar het kasteel ook wat molens
tegengekomen.
Alongside from the city walls and the harbour we walk to the gothic Castell de Bellver.
This castle is lying approximately 2 km from the cathedral on a hill with pine trees. You can see it from far.
On the way we saw a few windmills.

Het gotische kasteel Castell de Bellver ligt zoals gezegd ca 2km vanaf de kathedraal.
Het wordt als een van de mooiste gotische kastelen van Europa gezien.
Het kasteel werd in het begin van de 14e eeuw, toen het een onafhankelijk koninkrijk was, gebouwd door Pere Selvá
gebouwd als verblijf voor Jaume ll. Het werd later omgebouwd tot gevangenis wat het tot 1915 bleef.
The gothic castle Castell de Belverr is lying approximately 2 km from the cathedral. It is one of the beautiful
gothic castles of Europe.
The castle was built in the beginning from the 14 century trough Pere Selvá as stay for Jaume ll.
That time was it an independent kingdom. Afterwards was it reconstruct to a prison and stay to 1915.

Het cirkelvormig kasteel heeft een binnenhof omringd door twee verdiepingen met galerijen.
Drie cirkelvormige torens zijn deels in de muur verzonken. De vrijstaande Torre de Homenaje is via een boog met het
hoofdgebouw verbonden. Deze was zo ontworpen om als laatste bolwerk stand te houden. Via het platte dak van het kasteel
werd regenwater opgevangen in een ondergronds reservoir. Het geheel werd omringd door een gracht.
In een gedeelte van het kasteel is nu een museum gevestigd. Hier archeologische vondsten en Romeinse beelden. Verder heeft
men vanaf het kasteel dat op een heuvel ligt een mooi uitzicht over de haven en de stad met de Kathedraal La Seu
The circle form castle had an inside court enclosed with two floors with gallery’s. Three circle form towers are
partly in the walls. The detached Torre de Homenaje is trough an arc connected with the main building. This tower was
build for hold out at the last bulwark. Trough the plateaux from the castle rainwater was catch in an underground
reservoir. The whole castle was enclosing trough a moat.
In a part from the castle is a museum settle. You see archaeological found and roman sculptures. Further you have from the
castle hill a magnificent view over the harbour and the city with the Cathedral La Seu.

Na zo door Palma gelopen te hebben kunnen we zeggen dat het een heerlijk lopen is zo door de straten en langs veel
gerestaureerde gebouwen. Er hangt gewoon een aangename sfeer. De stad en de haven bruist en er zijn veel gelegenheden
waar men iets kan drinken of eten. In ieder geval een aanrader waard als men op mallorca zit.
After the walk trough Palma can we say that it is nice to walk trough the streets and past many restore buildings.
There was a pleasant atmosphere. The city and the harbour bursting with live and there many restaurants and cafés
where you can eat and drink. When you in Mallorca you must go to Palma.
